Description

A student-led review session to prepare students for the Law and Ethics test

Summary

Students will create questions covering the topics discussed during the law and ethics unit. Upon question completion, students will play a review game as review for the test.

Objectives

  • Students will learn a study skill by creating review questions.
  • Students will re-examine the content discussed during the unit.
  • Students will then ask for clarification on the points they need help with.

Lesson step-by-step

1. Focus — 2 minutes

Explain to students that today they’ll be revisiting the content discussed in the unit. The purpose of today is to help them review for the test. Now is also a good time to discuss the format of the test.

2. Pairs — 1 minute

Next, ask students to break into pairs.

3. Question generating — 10 minutes

Assign each group one or more of the categories listed on the topic sheet. They are responsible for generating at least six questions (and the subsequent answers) for review. The questions could be short answer, multiple choice, scenarios, etc. They only have 10 minutes to do this.

4. Question turn in — 2 minutes

Remind student pairs to put their names on the question and answer sheets before turning them in.

5. Rules of the game — 5 minutes

Teacher should randomly assign students to five groups. Instruct students on the following rules:

  1. No complaints.
  2. Teacher is the referee and assigns points to each group.
  3. The questions will be chosen randomly from those submitted.
  4. The first group will get the first question. If that group gets the answer correct, then the next group will get the next question.
  5. If group one misses the question, group three has 10 second to answer the question. If group two gets the question correct, group three gets the next question. If group two misses the question, it goes to group three (etc.). Hint: You’ll want to talk quietly as a group in case the group who has the question doesn’t know the answer.
  6. We will go through as many questions as possible.
  7. You may take notes during this activity. In fact, it’s encouraged.

6. Play the game — 30 minutes

Cycle through the student questions and answers. You may want to be selective in questions asked to get through the maximum content possible.
