Writing an advertising plan and script


Ad sales may be a dreaded, avoided requirement, but they teach us how to promote our work positively and to learn the art of confidently appealing to adults. In this lesson, students learn to prepare what they will say and how to prepare to sell business ads or sponsorships.


  • Students will research and outline the perks of advertising/sponsoring
  • Students will adapt a script to a business-oriented audience.
  • Students will practice becoming comfortable presenting their reasoning for the benefits of sponsorship.

  • Slideshow: 25-35 minutes to move through the slides, discuss, and take notes
  • Writing a script: 35 minutes or homework
  • Practicing the script: 30 minutes
  • Presenting the script for an audience and critiquing: 5-10 minutes per script

All materials and directives for the students to learn and execute their plan are given in the slideshow, with specific directives for action on the grey slides.

Lesson step-by-step

1. Teacher and students should work through the lesson on the slides. Collectively determine the talking points for your publication.

2. Next, students develop their own script (alone or in pairs).

3. Then, students rehearse their script, alone or in pairs

4. Finally, students present their script (with another student serving as the business person/manager) for a group and solicit critiques.


Students can be paired into groups to work together.
